Recent Professional Work

Being a developer at the university, all of my work requires NetID authentication as well as College of Medicine credentials. I will briefly explain some of the projects I am working on.

Arizona Med (Site Link)

The ArizonaMed curriculum was initiated on the Tucson Campus in the Fall of 2006. Planning and implementation of ArizonaMed involved hundreds of our faculty and students. We began by defining the key characteristics needed by physicians in the 21st century and used them to develop and refine our educational objectives. We then searched for the best educational methodologies used by medical schools across the country and adapted them to fit our learning objectives and educational culture. We are continuously refining the ArizonaMed curriculum, based upon our experiences with it. We are confident that students will have an outstanding educational and personal experience at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and that our educational program will allow our students to fulfill their professional aspirations.

This is the main application I work on. This is a system similar to D2L except it has a lot of custom components that are tailored to medical education.

Objective structured clinical examination (Site Link)

Each year, medical students are required to demonstrate what they have learned in terms of practical clinical skills. Students meet with a Standardized Patient in a mock physical exam. The Standardized Patient evaluates student on computer in exam room. Student fills out a written report in a computer separately. A mentor will then evaluate that written report as well as an oral presentation. In the past, this process was carried out in a “paper and pencil” format. By computerizing the process grades can be computed instantly and made available to faculty and staff.

This project required a strict budget and timeline.

Training Med (Site Link)

All medical students need to know about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). We were asked to code up a quick site that contained learning materials as well as a quizzer that presents students with a certificate of completion when they pass the quiz. The main feature of the application that we use over and over is UA NetID authentication along with a check of College of Medicine databases to allow students to view the content.

Freelance Work

TR Realty and Investments, LLC (Site Link)

TR Realty and Investments is a local (Tucson, AZ) realty company. I was approached by them in mid-2009. They wanted a clean website created to establish their web presence. I was able to put together a simple website built on the wordpress platform to enable social media expandability.

I really enjoyed working on this part of the project as it was my first integration of Wordpress and a theme build with 960gs. The front slideshow and navigation were built using jQuery.

This is an ongoing project as the realty industry is getting it’s legs back so there are huge possibilities for any company that uses the web and social media effectively.

Youth DCS

Youth Development Consulting Services was a project idea I briefly assisted with. The client was looking for a clean design to promote their new idea.

This was one of my first uses of rapid protyping using Blueprint CSS as the client wanted a quick turn around.

This idea was never fully developed as I suspect funding fell through.

Byia Designs (Site Link)

Byia Designs was my first freelance gig. Norman Bia was looking for a site to showcase his handcrafted jewelry

I valued this experience as this was the first project I had as a freelancer and I learned a lot of lessons in the area of web application theory

Personal Projects

As a web professional, I often have a set of protocols to abide by. In order to learn stuff on my free time, I purchased my own domain where I am constantly playing with new ideas. These ideas eventually get incorporated with my professional work once they have been fully tested. A couple are listed below:
