Javascript problems in with IE7 and Vista

June 16th, 2008

Yes I know, it instantly sounds like a plot for a bad horror movie.

I personally use XP Pro and Firefox for my setup so I have little experience with Vista or that abomination known as Internet Explorer 7. I am known at church as a “computer guy,” so people ask me for help, and they are slowly beginning to use Vista more and more.

After a short bout with a bad attitude, I did an exhaustive search for problems with javascript and IE7. I did everything mentioned in the forums involved with enabling javascript. It didn’t work. My solution actually came from googling the Facebook error. On a Facebook forum, I found my solution.

So, if you are having problems with javascript in IE7 you could try:

Click Start > Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.

In the Command Prompt, type: Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

You should get a success prompt, next type: Regsvr32 jscript.dll

After the success prompt, restart IE7 and you should be in business.

I type this mainly for myself so I can remember this in the future, but hopefully others will find this helpful.

Did you find this tip helpful? Drop a comment.
